The Untouchable DJ Drastic's Michael Jackson Memorial Tribute Mix Show | Michael Jackson, R.I.P. (08.29.58 – 06.25.09)

The Untouchable DJ Drastic was amongst the first in the world to report the confirmed death of Michael Jackson via his official Facebook.com & Twitter.com pages.

The world mourns Michael Jackson. His demise signifies the end of an era. Michael Jackson died on June 25th, 2009 in Los Angeles, California after going into cardiac arrest while at his home. It is highly unlikely that we will see another individual like Michael Jackson in this lifetime.

Following the tragic report, The Untouchable DJ Drastic took to the studio to record a special one hour tribute mix show in memory of "The King of Pop," Michael Jackson.

This mix show is currently broadcasting via numerous commercial outlets and was recorded live on one take in-studio.

The Untouchable DJ Drastic states, "My heart goes out to the Jackson family. Michael Jackson's music is included somewhere in the soundtrack of all our lives. The entire world mourns the world's greatest pop entertainer. I find that many appreciate Michael more deceased than when he was alive. You can say what you want about the man although he was an incredible performer, musical genius, and a philanthropist. The entertainment world will never be the same without Michael Jackson. The King of Pop, R.I.P."

The Local Radio Freedom Act | Sign The Petition To Save Free Radio Now!

Tired of the negative press they've received from suing college kids & grandmothers, the major record companies have now turned their sights on your local radio stations. The foreign owned record companies are spending millions of dollars lobbying Congress to pass a bill that would establish a "performance tax." This would force local radio to pay for the music that is currently provided to you, the listener, free of charge.

Like all businesses, radio stations across the country are struggling to stay afloat. Over 250 radio stations have been forced off the air in the last year alone. If passed, this bill would guarantee many more stations would fail and those that survive would not be the stations that you recognize today. It is you, the listener that will feel true impact of this tax most as it would ensure a decline in the diversity and quality of programming you expect and deserve from free radio.

Free radio needs your help in opposing the major record companies' money grab!

You can help stop the major record companies and keep government bureaucrats from deciding the price of the music you enjoy by signing our petition.

Save Your Radio Petition:
www.SaveYourRadio.org

Together, we can ensure that free radio continues to serve your local market with the highest quality service and programming.

Thank you for your support!

I remember him as being humble and willing to support us as DJs in every way. He was polite and genuinely understood how vital relationships were within the business. Dolla had nothing but love for those who had love for him. He always embraced me whenever our paths crossed within the circuit. I was deeply saddened by the news of his demise. Official Statement From The Family of Roderick Anthony Burton II

"First and foremost we, the Burton family would like to thank everyone for all their kind thoughts and prayers during these trying times.

Most recently, the Burton family was made aware that there have been numerous false claims of information floating around the net and also reported in reputable media outlets. Part of this was due to someone who was not authorized to speak on the family's behalf and who claimed to be the publicist of record decided to disseminate false information on her own and without the consent of the family to several media outlets.

Due to the circumstances of the situation no other information will be released at this time. We are grateful for your continued support in these trying times. We now ask everyone to allow us to mourn the loss of our beloved Roderick Anthony Burton II.

For the above reasons, we have authorized Mr. Dennis Byron, Dennis Byron Management to speak on behalf of the family while we cope with this unfortunate and painful loss.

A message on behalf of The Untouchable DJ Drastic:

"Loren Medina of Sony BMG Latin recently reached out to me to assist in furthering the awareness of a national non-profit organization called, Stand Up for Kids. The organization was founded in 1990 to help troubled youth across the country. I am in full support of this organization. I look forward to assisting in a more hands on approach within the forthcoming months."

The Figures of Youth Homelessness:

• 27% of the homeless population are children, the fastest growing segment.
• 36% of all homeless children have been on the streets for more than 3 years.
• 50% of all homeless children are still under the age of 15.
• 1.3 million - 2.8 million is the number of youth living on the streets each day. If counted as a single block they would rank among the top 10 most populated cities in the U.S.A.
• 1 in 7 is the number of children between the ages of 10 & 18 that will run away at least once.
• 13 homeless children die on the streets everyday [approximately 5,000 deaths a year].
• Domestic violence, sexual orientation, sexual abuse, incest, and poverty are the main reasons that children run away from home.

If you would like to donate clothes, money, hygiene products, etc to this organization, please contact Info@TheUntouchableDJDrastic.com and you will directed to the nearest chapter of the organization for drop off.

The Untouchable DJ Drastic Classic Throwbacks: “New Kids On The Block – Merry, Merry Christmas (Edited)”

Last week, I watched The Untouchable DJ Drastic burn through a ton of holiday records. My favorite record that he played was, “Funky Funky X-Mas” by New Kids On The Block. As versatile as he is, I don’t think that I have ever heard a DJ cut up New Kids On The Block. We got into conversation and I started to laugh because he told me how he remembered, “This One’s For The Children” as his favorite from the 1989 holiday album. Drastic asked me to personally add the album to his official blog as a special holiday treat for all DJs.

Press Release: The Untouchable DJ Drastic Disputes Wikipedia.org and Wikimedia Foundation

Press Release: The Untouchable DJ Drastic Disputes Wikipedia.org and Wikimedia Foundation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Untouchable DJ Drastic, a well-known United States DJ and music industry professional is notable for quite a few reasons. We recently challenged Wikimedia Foundation editors to properly edit The Untouchable DJ Drastic’s page on the website, Wikipedia.org. The page has been vandalized on numerous occasions providing inaccurate content in addition to implementing promotion and/or conduct that is unauthorized by the Wikimedia Foundation. The page has since been removed.

We found it interesting that Wikipedia.org, a community of user contributed encyclopedic entries maliciously removed our client’s name from the entire website. This includes professional companies, entities, and outlets in which his information is rightfully placed.

An e-mail statement from The Untouchable DJ Drastic who is currently in Dubai on professional hiatus for the holidays reads, “If I’m correct, Wikipedia is a small company of about 10 – 50 employees. They’re a non-profit organization. How would it look for me to debate with a non-profit organization? I do as much as I can for charities. If Wikipedia is looking for a donation, this isn’t the best way to obtain one. I respect the concept that the website provides a mean for people to resource information. I’m not a member of their community. My management team executes certain updates which in my eyes, rightfully should because that’s their job. I don’t know of the technicalities nor are they responsible for all of the edits on the page. The last time that I checked, Wikimedia Foundation has not cut me any checks for my information to be made available on their websites. I prefer for my name not to be used within their community unless added at my personal request. If the non-profit organization would like reference letters on company letterhead acknowledging my positions amongst these companies and/or outlets, they are readily available upon request. Mari as my assistant advised me that the article is valid under certain guidelines but was deleted. If it wasn’t for her being nervous that she would lose her job, I would have ignored the issue one hundred times over. The cyber world is tricky because for all I know someone is simply attempting to depreciate my professional credibility to the rest of the world. If I felt this was a serious issue, I would get in contact with Jimmy Wales personally.”

Wikimedia Foundation has been the subject of multiple lawsuits in recent years regarding the severity of having unauthorized information available on their websites. The company operates out of San Francisco, California and can be contacted at (415) 839-6885.

NightlifeInNYC.com Exclusive | In-Depth Interview: "New York City's Heat," The Untouchable DJ Drastic

NightlifeInNYC.com Exclusive | In-Depth Interview: "New York City's Heat," The Untouchable DJ Drastic

Earlier this week, I finally got an opportunity to interview one of Brooklyn’s finest, The Untouchable DJ Drastic. This is something that I’ve been trying to do for close to a year now.

As I sat in a white Cadillac Escalade, The Untouchable DJ Drastic began to play tracks for me from MIMS’ forthcoming album. He told me that he wanted my general opinion of the songs.

The first song played was “Therapy” produced by Pharrell of The Neptunes followed by “Barock Star” then “Move” which I’ve heard in recent months. He then made me shut off my tape recorder as he played two tracks that I’ve never heard before; one being an untitled freestyle and the other was, “The World Is Mine.” I began to smile when I heard these records because Drastic erupted with energy. He said that the records were amongst his favorites. I personally thought that both of the records were club bangers.

He continued to play exclusive material from reggae group T.O.K. and others for my opinion. He advised me that he was pressed for time at which point he ignited a blunt and we engaged in our interview.

01. When did your career as a DJ begin?

“I’ve been on the scene since 2001. I moved under the radar for many years. A lot of individuals didn’t embrace me. In fact, they threw so many obstacles in my path that I had to create my own lane.”

02. How did you get your name, “The Untouchable DJ Drastic”?

“Before I was DJ Drastic, I was just Drastic. My first name is Daniel. A lot of the time people would call me Danny Drastic which I couldn’t stand because it sounded so lame. Some people still think that’s my last name (laughs). Drastic is a reflection of my overall demeanor. The Untouchable is a reflection of my mental state as far as possessing the capability to block people out of my mind. I’ve had very little sincerity or support growing up so anything that I’ve achieved I had to fight for in this world. It definitely defined me as a person both personally and professionally.”

03. How has the business impacted your life?

“The business has definitely changed me as person. I’m still not sure if it’s for better or worse. It’s difficult because I’m learning everything hands on. I never had a father to teach me how to play basketball or ride a bike. I taught myself these things. In the business, I feel the same way. I’m fortunate to be business savvy. This propelled me more than any other characteristic within me outside of my actual talent over the years.

When you’re in the entertainment or music business, an awkward type of jealousy and hate can develop in certain people around you. Sometimes it’s disguised as an excessive amount of support. I knew that these situations existed although I didn’t expect to see it within my immediate circle. I’ve learned over the years to keep relationships simple. A lot of the time people say that I’m arrogant but that’s not the case. They haven’t walked in my shoes to understand where I’m coming from as a whole. People think that it’s fun and games to be in this field but most of time I’m miserable doing what I love, if that makes any sense. It goes way beyond fame or money. Me personally, the lack of sincerity eats at me inside. I’m a very genuine person so to have to deal with people that are not like me constantly, it’s a stretch. Honestly, not everyone is malicious some just might not know any better.

If I had ten lifetimes to live, I would stop and analyze every single person and their issues. Unfortunately, I only live one lifetime which is my own. So I try my best to help people but life doesn’t stop for the next person especially if it’s not vice-versa when it comes to me.”

4. What initially influenced you to become a DJ?

“I was discovered in 2000 by a group of nightlife promoters in New York as an emcee. At the time, I was working with a few different individuals locally. I would go to the studio and I felt uncomfortable for whatever reason. I had an offer but at that point of my life I didn’t have the passion to really move forward and act on certain opportunities as an emcee. I knew I loved the music. I just felt like everyone around me was trying to do what it was that I was trying to do. I didn’t have any guidance so I was afraid to be caught up in a bad situation.

At the time, I had some side hustles and saved some money. I took myself down to Fulton Street in Brooklyn and purchased DJ equipment. It wasn’t anything fancy although it enabled me the platform to mold my style as an entertainer.

The culture as a whole was the influence. I come from the last real generation of Hip Hop music. I used to be up in Fat Beats and all the records stores religiously. People didn’t know who I was but I was there. I’m real, a product of the four elements. Most of the DJs after the year 2000, I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t even know what the four elements were and they’re playing rap genre in these nightclubs.”

5. Do you provide services for any companies exclusively?

“I work with quite a few companies. I’m a multi-faceted professional. I have an eclectic assortment of clients. Pnina Tornai recently hired me to structure soundtracks for their fashion shows which is a stretch from my usual dealings. I’m not here to promote any outlets although all of my clients know that I am efficient and professional in all of my services. I’m always looking to expand my portfolio. Feel free to contact my management (TCNManagementGroup@gmail.com) with any inquiries.”

6. How do you feel about the mobile DJ business and/or private engagements?

“I’m a true entertainer. I embrace society as a whole. I love to perform for any individual that enjoys a performance by The Untouchable DJ Drastic. I’ve done the high-end Super Sweet 16 thing and I have a great time. People love it when I come to their modest environment and I still have the same energy as if I was in an arena. As a DJ, I consider myself multi-faceted. You get the same performance from me whether there are 10 or 10,000 people.”

7. What makes you better than the competition?

“I’m very competitive but I try refrain from giving myself a heart attack. I view other industry professionals as my peers. I have the utmost respect for their contributions to the business as I hope they would for my own. As far a generic disc jockey, they’re not competition to me. I’m in the belly of the beast. I don’t have respect for individuals that are part-time or are in the quote-unquote business for the wrong reasons. I can respect one’s passion for the craft but it’s difficult for me to respect them as professionals.”

8. What’s on the horizon for you?

“I’m getting ready to go to back to the United Kingdom to represent what I do in a major way. I’m going to be blasting off on Oxygen FM107.9 on the 26th of December. I’m also going to do a club run. I’ll be back in the states for New Years Eve. The American King Music family has a brand new MIMS album on the way. The single right now is “Move” and it’s bubbling on radio. I just finished shooting scenes for a new movie called, “Monkey Gang.” It’s hilarious and that’ll be out next year. I’m also in the studio working on an album in addition to a new project with The Grind Kings set to be released next year. I would definitely like to shoot a music video mid-2009 as well. I recently signed a contract to produce comedy sketches for DAPS (www.DogandPonyShowWebsite.com) and that’ll be out mid-2009. I also have an apparel line and a liquor to endorse next year. Other than that, I plan on staying in the clubs and continuing to impact radio on my mission to find my ideal outlet and/or comfort zone professionally.

I always say that I’m one man doing the job of twenty in the lifetime of one. My personal goal is to find a good woman, get married, have a daughter, take care of my mother, and continue to focus on my career. We’re in exceptional times as a country. I don’t come from much therefore I never take for granted what I have and/or how fast it can be taken away even on my best day.

Thank you to NightlifeInNYC for holding me down and constantly supporting me as a professional. Y’all blog look like it was made just for me. I respect that. Real; Respect; Real.”

The Untouchable DJ Drastic would like to send his deepest condolences to the family of Bronx rapper, “Party Arty” who passed away yesterday (12.04.08) around 1:30PM due to unspecified health complications.

Party Arty is best known as a member of the “Ghetto Dwellas.” He is an affiliate of rappers Showbiz and A.G. in addition to the rap group, D.I.T.C. (Diggin’ In The Crates Crew). He has worked with numerous artists within the industry including Jay-Z, Gangstarr, and many more. He has also worked with producers such as DJ Premier, Madlib, and many more.

The Untouchable DJ Drastic Teams Up w/ SayNow.com To Communicate w/ Fans (Call The Untouchable DJ Drastic @ 718.354.8774 Courtesy of SayNow.com)

Earlier this year, The Untouchable DJ Drastic was offered an opportunity to team up with SayNow.com. SayNow.com is a social networking website that enables fans to call their favorite athletes, celebrities, entertainers, and/or musicians including 50 Cent, Alicia Keys, T.I., The Untouchable DJ Drastic, and many more.

The Untouchable DJ Drastic had this to say about the professional alliance, “I feel that SayNow.com is an excellent outlet for celebrities and entertainers to keep in touch with their fans in a sincere way. Over the past few years, it’s been difficult to keep up with individuals as often as I would like to do so. As entertainers, we live such hectic lives. Our schedules are often very intense and even when we aren’t performing in person; the demands of our profession rarely leave time for leisure. I’m proud to be part of the SayNow.com family and look forward to assisting their overall growth as a company in due time.”

The Untouchable DJ Drastic will begin to embrace his official SayNow.com domain and phone number as of November 2008. Featured Million DJ March Performer & Speaker: The Untouchable DJ Drastic

Daniel M. Johnson known professionally as The Untouchable DJ Drastic is one of the new generation music industry’s most influential tastemakers. A key initiator of the Million DJ March, Drastic’s influence is essential to not only the cause but the culture as a whole.

Growing up in Brooklyn, NY was no joy ride for Drastic. His family was unstable as he grew up with a biological father who played little role in his life. Following the murder of his father, Drastic found himself near homeless at 19 years of age. He took a year off to restructure his path for the future and hasn’t looked back since. The Untouchable DJ Drastic is a self propelled professional in every aspect of his career. It’s no wonder why he has the backing of not only major record labels but multi-faceted corporations.

At 25 years of age, The Untouchable DJ Drastic has dominated every major nightclub in New York City and surrounding areas, broken countless acts propelling them to peak positions on the Billboard charts, toured with platinum recording artists, impacted every form of radio (College, Commercial, Internet, Mobile, and Satellite), instructed students at Scratch DJ Academy, spoken on numerous industry panels, founded his own brand and collective in The Coalition Network, and the list goes on.

The Untouchable DJ Drastic also discreetly serves on the Board of Directors and as a front man for The BumSquad DJz Worldwide. Drastic can also be found in-studio working on various forthcoming projects in addition to his own.

Despite his extensive resume, Drastic emphasizes that he’s just getting started. “For me, it’s all about legacy. I wish that there were 48 hours in each day so that I had the stamina and time to expedite all of my ideas accordingly. I receive credit for my accomplishments but I tend to think that I’m just getting started. I prefer to move under the radar. I stay away from negativity and never stop for anyone. In my heart, I’m a product of the culture. I’m not fabricated or premeditated. I’ve been through a lot. If I was to ever slow down it would be purely by choice. While other individuals are talking, drinking, smoking, or focusing on women, I’m in my own space striving towards a higher plateau. We must preserve our culture as DJs, entertainers, enthusiasts, purists, supporters, and so forth. Actions speak louder than words. The time is now.”

Video footage of The Untouchable DJ Drastic discussing the Million DJ March can be found on YouTube.com. He recently addressed the event while in the United Kingdom on FM107.9 during a live mix show with host Mark Devlin of The Coalition Network.

Touch Magazine (United Kingdom) Features - July 2008

Where’s The Party At?

Edited By Mark Devlin

DJ HEROES: THE UNTOUCHABLE DJ DRASTIC

Any Touch reader that happens to be visiting Big Bad New York City would be well advised to seek the whereabouts of the city’s Untouchable DJ Drastic.

It’s difficult enough competing in the Hip Hop DJ game; but being a contender in the place that started it all requires an extra creative edge. It’s a challenge that Brooklyn-born Daniel M. Johnson, better known as DJ Drastic, has embraced fully.

From low-key beginnings spinning at neighborhood parties, Drastic’s determination to better his life by doing something meaningful saw him acquire both the party-rocking skills and the business-minded approach to start spinning at some of the more celebrated clubs across the bridge in Manhattan.

Radio-wise, Drastic first presented his appropriately-titled “Grind Session” mix shows on AOL Radio and New York college radio station WSIA. He has taught mixing skills to aspiring DJs at New York’s famous Scratch Academy, founded The Coalition DJ Network as a collective of key urban music DJs and supported artists; most notable being MIMS for whom he is largely responsible for breaking along with the banger “This Is Why I’m Hot” to U.S. radio.

What’s The Untouchable DJ Drastic Wearing These Days? 10AK Custom Clothing!

The Untouchable DJ Drastic can be spotted worldwide and in New York City regularly wearing customized garments. Most recently during New York City’s Dynamic Producer conference and during a live performance at The Plumm nightclub, he was spotted wearing a custom BumSquad DJz t-shirt. After receiving numerous compliments on the garment, The Untouchable DJ Drastic acknowledged the shirt’s designer.

Having been one of the first individuals embraced by the 10AK Custom Clothing brand, he continues to be spotted wearing the company’s newest garments. He is officially endorsed by the brand being spotted wearing both custom BumSquad DJz & Coalition Network apparel.

Each garment is uniquely designed by hand for the individual ranging between $199.99 and $499.99 in price. Only the finest materials are used during the creation process including Czech glass bugle beads, Swarovski crystals, or even real diamonds depending on your budget.

The Untouchable DJ Drastic Rocks NYC's Plumm Nightclub w/ Fame's Allure & Surprise Guest Che'Nelle

This past weekend (08.02.08), DAPS’s own Untouchable DJ Drastic rocked New York City’s Plumm nightclub. The crowd went home happy at this highly anticipated appearance date. As the Fame’s Allure fashion show experienced technical difficulties through the early parts of the evening, The Untouchable DJ Drastic seemed relatively unaffected burning through record after record. He presented an eclectic mix of party tunes to a room full of fashion enthusiasts.

Once the technical issues were rectified, the show went on as planned. The Untouchable DJ Drastic continued to mix seamlessly throughout the actual fashion showcase. DAPS was able to obtain some exclusive footage.

The fashion line’s creators took the floor late in the night to present their concluding speeches. A big surprise came about prior to the event’s conclusion. The Untouchable DJ Drastic introduced EMI recording artist Che’Nelle to the crowd. She went on to freestyle, displaying her vocal ability and range; she even went on to sing an acapella version of “I Fell In Love With DJ Drastic.” A dub version of her popular single, “I Fell In Love With The DJ Remix” which features Jamaican reggae star Baby Cham.

The Untouchable DJ Drastic does it again! Exclusive images and video footage to follow.

INTERVIEW: “4 Minutes” w/ New York’s Untouchable DJ Drastic

INTERVIEW: “4 Minutes” w/ New York’s Untouchable DJ Drastic

The Untouchable DJ Drastic will be appearing live at The Plumm in New York City courtesy of Liv Live Entertainment on 08.02.08. We recently had a chance to chop it up with The Untouchable DJ Drastic via telephone and here’s what we discussed...

Key: “LLE” = Liv Live Entertainment / “UDD” = Untouchable DJ Drastic

01. LLE: Drastic, Tell us where it all started for you professionally.

UDD: I’ve had my hands in so many different things over the years. 88.9FM WSIA; College radio is a foundational aspect of my career as are the nightclubs of New York City. It’s been a long time coming. 4 minutes is not enough time.

02. LLE: Speaking of nightclubs, I remember coming to see you at Crobar. I was extremely impressed the first time that I observed your level of skill. What do you feel makes you most appealing to your fans?

UDD: That’s easy. I’m real. People sense it in my demeanor. I choose to influence not follow the pack. Sometimes I feel that I am so ahead of my time that I lapped myself along the way. Every now and then, I have to stop and go back to pick up the pieces. This can have a positive or negative influence in my life.

03. LLE: Is there a Mrs. Untouchable DJ Drastic?

UDD: I keep life simple. I hope to find one. It’s difficult; especially in my world. My ultimate goal is to build with my queen, have a daughter, take care of my mother, continue to evolve professionally, and enjoy my days.

04. LLE: Alright, we’re going to throw a curveball in your direction. If you had to choose who would you side with Soulja Boy or Ice-T?

UDD: What? C’mon man, What kind of question is that? Ice-T all day. Are you talking about that internet nonsense that had went on a few months back? (Laughs) I have nothing against Soulja Boy but I f**ks w/ Ice-T. Hands down.

05. LLE: What advice do you have to give aspiring industry professionals?

UDD: Stay true to your craft. Remember to stay grounded even on your best day. You’ll have people that you will walk by on the street but never turn your back on the ones that genuinely supported you along the way. The most difficult part is sorting out the ones who genuinely assisted you versus the ones that did it for personal gain. They’re all beneficial in some aspect but some are closer to the heart. It’s a thin line; to each their own.

LLE: Well Drastic, we want to thank you for touching base with us and look forward to seeing you in New York City later this summer.

UDD: Likewise. Thank You. Enjoy the rest of your morning.

The Untouchable DJ Drastic's Candid & Exclusive Interview w/ The Scene Society (Adapted From www.TheSceneSociety.com)

The Untouchable DJ Drastic's Candid & Exclusive Interview w/ The Scene Society
(Adapted From www.TheSceneSociety.com)

The Untouchable DJ Drastic is a staple within the music industry. A seasoned veteran of the new generation, Scene Society has followed DJ Drastic since his early days in the business.

As we’ve observed him dominate every obstacle in his path over the years, he seems to only get better with age. At only 25 years of age, The Untouchable DJ Drastic is documented to earn an average of $2750.00 - $3500.00 per performance. Not bad for four hours work, huh?

Despite the pros and cons that have plagued him throughout his career and life, he remains humble; usually willing to assist others before himself. The Untouchable DJ Drastic recently checked in to answer some questions for our friends here @ Scene Society.

Scene Society: How long have you been DJ’ing?

The Untouchable DJ Drastic: I’ve been DJ’ing for close to a decade. I’ve always been musically inclined so for me it was natural. I’ve experimented with many aspects of the business. I’m happy to do what I love and be able share my talents. This business is cut throat and intense. You have to position yourself accordingly. I feel that if you know the direction in which you’re going, stick with it. Allow everyone else’s negativity to be your motivation. I do my thing but I constantly feel that there is a much greater plateau to strive towards.

Scene Society: Do you go to nightclubs when you’re not working? What song excites you enough to dance?

The Untouchable DJ Drastic: I enjoy many different genres of music. You might spot me having a great time at a House music event one night and then another night at a laid back industry gathering. I’m versatile. The biggest aspect of having a good time is how the DJ presents the music to me as a listener. I enjoy hearing DJs that are creative and push the limits as I would during a live appearance.

Scene Society: If the crowd is dull upon arriving to an event, what song would you play to get the party moving?

The Untouchable DJ Drastic: I have a tendency to get right into the goods. I’ll play the number one song in the country first. A lot of DJs might hold off on certain records but I tend to rotate my tracks differently. I don’t beat around the bush during a performance. I give the people what they want right up front. I like to approach a situation of that nature by letting the crowd know that I’m there to entertain.
Scene Society: We’re going to throw a few names in your direction. We would like you to choose which one you’d prefer…

A. Rihanna or Ciara
B. Lindsey Lohan or The Olsen Twins

The Untouchable DJ Drastic: I would definitely have to say Rihanna because I love Caribbean women with a passion. The Olsen Twins only because there are two of them. I have a lot love for Lindsey though. All of the women that you’ve mentioned are beautiful and talented. You’re putting me in a jam, Scene Society!

Scene Society: What was the craziest encounter that you've had with nightclub security?

The Untouchable DJ Drastic: I’m polite, professional, and respectful to all the employees of the venues for which I entertain. I remember one incident in particular where the bouncer placed my records outside of the nightclub spitefully. He refused to let me enter through a side door. We had some words because I felt uncomfortable with the conduct of the situation. I knew the head of security personally. The situation escalated and then turned physical.

At that moment in time, I was by myself at the venue. My camp was to arrive shortly after me. Once my peers arrived, the entire situation changed and no one wanted any problems. This situation was basically the result of an ignorant individual. It was unfortunate but it happens within the business. I attempted to handle it as professionally as possible. The management apologized by sending me and my peers a couple of bottles of Grey Goose.

Scene Society: How many groupies do you have? Do you have a main one that comes to all of your events?

The Untouchable DJ Drastic: It’s amusing because a good friend of mine always says to me, “Drastic, you be rollin’ into these spots like a rapper.” I used to take my whole camp to the clubs with me. This consisted of about 20 – 40 individuals on any given night. I stopped that a while ago because I wasn’t able to observe the actions of these individuals. People can get reckless and I didn’t want that to reflect negatively on me as a professional. I prefer to focus on my craft in a working environment.

I roll with plenty of women too. I’ve noticed that the more women you roll with, the more drama will take place. I used to have this one young lady that would always follow me from spot to spot. She would tell security that she was my girlfriend which was a lie and they’d always let her in. One night, we eventually had sex in the DJ booth. A lot of these DJs say that they get down. Let it be known, “I get down for real!” I remember having security close the booth off for about 30 minutes and in between records I would put the work in. She finally got what she wanted and fell back. She still comes out every so often although we’re actually friends now so it worked out well for me.

Scene Society: Untouchable DJ Drastic, We would like to thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to chat with us.

The Untouchable DJ Drastic: It’s never a problem. Thank you for your support. I genuinely appreciate it. All the best to you and the Scene Society.

The Million DJ March Impacts Washington, DC w/ The Untouchable DJ Drastic & DJs Worldwide!

The Million DJ March is set to impact Washington, DC on August 29th, 2008 & August 30th, 2008. The event’s organizers (A. Shaw and company) have structured strong alliances and professional affiliations with DJs such as The Untouchable DJ Drastic, Green Lantern, and many more. DJ collectives from around the globe are also at the forefront of this monumental event. Collectives such as The BumSquad DJz, The Coalition Network, The Core DJs, and many more have signed on to participate in the movement as official affiliates and/or presenters.

The Million DJ March is structured to assist the growth and preservation of culture amongst the DJ community and business. As a whole, the DJ is often the most underappreciated component of the entertainment business. Since the 70’s, the DJ has always been perceived as underground. As we fast forward to 2008, the music business has changed dramatically for artists and DJs alike. Only professional DJs know the pros and cons of the business. While a majority of professional DJs are able to earn income from a career in the entertainment business, very few have medical benefits and often face challenges to maintain their positions.

The Untouchable DJ Drastic is a key initiator of The Million DJ March. In an internet clip that surfaced on the World Wide Web; The Untouchable DJ Drastic stated, “For every artist that is successful there’s been the first DJ that broke their record and the DJs that have carried them throughout their careers through good times and bad. The R.I.A.A. wants to come down on DJs for mix tapes and things of that nature. The DJ has always helped the artist and a lot of the artists get the recognition all the time. It’s just different things that we want to structure for the DJs because we are the true tastemakers within the music industry.”

In correspondence with this release, The Untouchable DJ Drastic further stated, “The music business is suffering as a result of piracy and over saturation. DJs need to come together and strive for change. Why is there no category for the DJ at the Grammy Awards? Why is the R.I.A.A. coming down on DJs for mix tapes? If it wasn’t for DJs, no music would ever reach the public. We’re the ones that first told you about these artists! We need to structure a trade labor union for DJs so that we can all comfortably provide for our families as with any other profession. I’m sure the owners of most nightclubs would feel differently if they began to receive calls from management stating that there was a giant inflatable rat posted outside of their venue. Most DJs don’t even have medical benefits. This is a problem. Artists and record labels are making anywhere from thousands to millions of dollars off the work of DJs. Most DJs will never see reparation. Record labels need to look to hire more reputable DJs to handle their tasks. After all, DJs are the ones that have the ties to the mass public. I speak on behalf of the DJ community in hopes that that the music industry can continue to be productive and profitable for all of us. We all need to help each other in many ways. Piracy is an epidemic but it’s only part of the problem. DJs need to take a stand financially as far as a minimum pay rate that is accepted to perform on any occasion. All these issues will be addressed but change takes time. Help take the first step towards change amongst the DJ community. We need to solidify our future before someone else does it for us!”
